Boat Show Wrap-Up |
Thanks to everyone who managed to drop by our booth at the Toronto International Boat Show. For the first time in several years, there was a noticeable increase in attendance, and the overall 'vibe' of the show was refreshingly very positive!
This year, we had a record number of new listings just prior to, and during the show. In fact, we've recently listed close to one million dollars worth of new inventory! This is not including a 106" Lazzara, which has an asking price of just over three million dollars on it's own (and yes, this is a good asking price!).
Our next event is the Ottawa Boat Show, February 23-26. If you're in the area, we'd love to see you. We are hoping that the general positive upswing continues on there, and on into the 2012 boating season. -- Mike |

Repeat Business Pretty Much Says It All... |

At the 2011 Port Credit Boat Show, the NSNY team sold a Carver 530 Voyageur – for the third time!
We understand that choosing the right brokerage to represent you can be overwhelming – after all you trust them with your boat!
After years of being in the business, we’ve developed some guidelines on how to find the right brokerage to sell your boat.
A few key things to keep in mind...
Choose a brokerage that has a track record of selling boats. At NSYS we have the connections to boat buyers, whether through boat shows, online or offline advertising, office drop-ins, or referrals. We’re in the business of selling boats!
Choose a brokerage that supports professionalization and accreditation. We are professional, full-time yacht brokers. We take our livelihood seriously, we want to do a good job Choose a broker that will give you professional honest advice on how to put your best foot forward in selling your boat.
At North South Yacht Sales, we invest in our brokerage to make it one of distinction.
And the Carver 530?
Well, the new owners are thrilled. And when they are ready to move to a different boat, we are confident that they will ask us to sell the Carver on their behalf.
We’ll be happy to see that lovely yacht again – we know her ins and outs, her sweet point – and we’re sure to find the right buyer just for her! |

The Dave de Eyre Classic Golf Tournament |

The NSYS Team hits the fairway!
Under ideal weather conditions at the Horseshoe Valley golf course, the 4th Annual Boating Ontario Dealers David de Eyre Classic Golf Tournament remembered the late David de Eyre. The tournament was supported by many marine professionals including members of Boating Ontario Dealer as well as many of Dave's longstanding friends, associates and family members.
Pictured here from North South Yacht Sales are from left to right: Dr. Tapp, Rocco Barca, Don Allin and Mike Burns.
Dave had a long, successful career in the marine industry in both power and sail. In the last years of his life he owned and operated Clift's Marine Sales and brought Rocco, Don and Mike on-board as yacht brokers. It was out of Clift's Marine Sales that long standing friendships were formed and the seeds of North South Yacht Sales were planted.
Dave was one of the founding members of Boating Ontario Dealer, established in association with the Ontario Marine Operators Association. A true professional yacht broker, he was a leader in establishing the CPYB or Certified Professional Yacht Broker accreditation to Canada and one of the very first yacht brokers to pass the test. He was very active in the community of Port Credit for many years and chair of the BIA.
Dave de Eyre is fondly remembered by the marine industry - and he was always ready for a game of golf! |

When Should I List My Boat? |
We often get asked when is the best time to sell your boat? Our response? .... 'Anytime is a great time to sell your boat!'
But what we really mean ..... is that a well maintained boat that has been properly priced and marketed will sell any time of year. Don't let the fall and the cooler weather discourage you from putting your vessel up for sale. In fact, historically, the fall has been an exceptional time to sell.
The NSNY brokers sat down and compiled a list of Boat Selling Tips, to help you get your boat ready for sale. But never underestimate good professional advise and working with a brokerage firm that is professional and gives you confidence. Give one of our professional brokers a call to see how North South Yacht Sales can help you sell your boat. |

Hone Your Boat Handling With BoaterSkills.ca |
With an estimated 2.5-million Ontario boaters taking to the water this season, the need for practical, hands-on training has never been greater. BoaterSkills.ca, a training program for recreational boaters in Ontario, has begun offering its boating safety and basic skills development clinics across the province. There’s no classroom, no exam, no major time commitment – just you, your boat, your crew and a day with a professional captain.
Conveniently located in the offices of the Yacht Brokerage firm North South Nautical Group Inc. at Port Harbour Marina, BoaterSkills.ca sends a professional instructor to their client’s boat to provide half or full-day onboard training. From tying knots, to docking, anchoring and rules of the road, BoaterSkills.ca tailors the clinics to the client’s individual needs.
Mike Burns, President and owner of North South Nautical Group, works with BoaterSkills.ca to offer hands-on training to his clients. He says more boaters need to appreciate the many benefits to hands-on training.
”From what I have observed in the past, proper training can only enhance the experience people have on the water with their boats, and Craig has certainly created a curriculum that can accomplish this,” said Burns. “As people’s boating skills develop, so does their confidence.”
Craig Hamilton, founder and chief instructor of Boaterskills.ca, has sailed many parts of the world as a professional skipper and has witnessed time and again disastrous outcomes as a result of boaters who have not received even the most basic training before heading out on the water.
“BoaterSkills.ca provides you with the hands-on training you need to be safe on the water,” said Hamilton. “The Pleasure Craft Operator Card program makes you legal to operate a boat; we want you competent to operate a boat.” More...
